Allegorithmic announces Substance Designer 3
Allegorithmic has announced Substance Designer 3, the next update to its specialist games texturing tool.
The software provides a non-destructive, node-based system, complete with a 3D preview, for authoring lightweight procedural textures, or ‘substances’. Substances are supported in 3ds Max, Maya and Unity.
New features in version 3 include a batch system for automating repetitive texture-processing tasks: something Allegorithmic describes in the video above as making up “almost 80%” of a texture artist’s workload.
The new release also adds a bitmap painting system, building on Substance Designer’s existing vector paint and procedural image-editing capabilities.
Substance Designer 3 will be released later this summer on Windows and Mac OS X, price $590. Allegorithmic is currently offering a discount for anyone pre-ordering or upgrading from Substance Designer 2.x.
